Video Marketing Trends for 2022

video marketing trends 2022 featuring YouTube Logo

If you haven’t already jumped on the video marketing bandwagon for your business yet, 2022 is the year to get on board. Video is predicted to make up a whopping 82% of all online traffic in 2022, so you’ll want to make sure that your online content is getting a piece of that action.

You don’t necessarily want to be making any old videos, though, as there are emerging trends that you may want to follow if you’re looking to keep up with your competition. So, if you’re ready to optimize your video marketing strategy for 2022, keep the following trends in mind.

Live Video

Since the pandemic put a lot of in-person experiences on hold within the last few years, live videos have enjoyed a significant rise in popularity. They have provided a great opportunity for people to share experiences and connect with others from the comfort and safety of their own homes. And even as the world begins to open back up, the demand from consumers doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

According to a survey done by Livestream and New York Magazine, 80% of consumers prefer live videos to blog posts, and 82% prefer them over social media posts. They also seem to prefer live videos over more traditional ones, as people are 6x more likely to interact with Facebook Live videos than traditional video content. There is certainly an appetite for live videos out there, so consider making them part of your marketing strategy in 2022.

Search Optimized Videos

A lot of businesses are aware of the benefits of using SEO techniques to boost their website rankings on popular search engines, but many haven’t realized that they should be using similar methods for their videos. Videos already give you about a 50x better chance of ranking on the first page of search engines, but if everyone’s doing videos, then you need to find a way to stand out.

There are a few different things you can do to help optimize your videos for search engines in 2022, such as:

  • Using keywords in any text related to your video, including its title and file name
  • Including closed captioning and subtitles
  • Creating unique thumbnail images
  • Posting and publishing videos frequently

User Generated Videos

Consumers are growing increasingly weary of traditional brand marketing techniques, and this trend will likely continue into 2022. They know that brands are always going to paint the best possible images of themselves to get their business, regardless of what they’re really like, so they often have a hard time trusting their claims.

What consumers do seem to trust, though, is user generated content. In fact, 85% are more likely to trust user generated content than branded content, and this is something that isn’t being lost on many businesses. Instead of trying to fight against this trend, a lot of brands are embracing it by partnering with brand advocates.

These are often satisfied customers and/or influencers who generate their own video content on behalf of the brand, who can then reshare it on their own pages. These user generated videos may allow consumers to put more trust in the brand over time, ultimately leading to an increase in online traffic and sales.
